Craft Beers

Some of you may not know that for a significant period of time Elysian used a contract brewer in Colorado to help meet demand while they built the brewery they are at now.  During that time I had the opportunity to get my hands on a couple of bottles of something that I was happy to try.
Dragonstooth Oatmeal Stout - Elysian Brewing Company
This one pours out a dark black with just a few amber/reddish highlights when held up to the light.  It had a fairly tall, brownish head that left clear lacing. It had notes of coffee, milk chocolate, molasses,  herbal black tea, and roasted barley.  It has a big full mouth feel with a creamy smooth finish, low carbonation and just a touch of hop bitterness at the end (probably where that herbal black tea note came from).
As with all Oatmeal Stouts the grain bill made it smooth and drinkable.  If you were going to have a friend step into the stout world and try one you would have to do some searching to find a better starter.  I suspect I would find some room in my already overloaded beer fridge for this one if it was easier for me to find. I’m easy like that when it comes to stouts…
